A week-end in Italy to discover the exciting via ferratas in Lecco area. Some Alpin readers enjoyed this amazing event organized by C.A.M.P. and the German magazine, climbing in the last days via ferratas of Pizzo d'Erna and Corna di Medale together with several C.A.M.P. collaborators (among which Germany sales manager Christian Bickel), Olaf Perwitzschky and Ulrike Lang of Alpin and alpine guides Pietro Biasini and Giacomo Casiraghi.
The adventure started on Saturday 4th October on the Gamma 1, the via ferrata that reaches Pizzo d'Erna summit after many ladders, traverses and the spectacular Carlo Mauri bridge (although it wasn't possible to appreciate the panorama due to the fog). In the afternoon the participants came up to Premana to visit C.A.M.P. head office, where president Eddy Codega presented the 125 years history of the company and its modern R&D center. Alpin readers and journalists were very interested and surprised: Ulrike Lang said that «it is incredible that a company as C.A.M.P. designs, develops and tests in a little mountain village advanced mountain equipment that is distributed in 80 different countries around the world».
Ice axes, crampons, carabiners, harnesses, helmets and – of course – reliable via ferrata sets made to assure absolute safety and the best comfort when you climb. So, Alpin readers appreciated very much the patented Gyro system with its three independently rotating swivels that work together to prevent twisting and tangling of the two set lanyards. The second day German guests tested the Gyro on the famous via ferrata of Corna di Medale, the 350 meters vertical wall that overlooks Lecco and first climbed by Riccardo Cassin in 1931. On the summit all participants enjoyed that unique landscape, took many pictures and were happy for the amazing experience that allowed them to know both C.A.M.P. and the wonderful mountains of Lecco.
